Not so long ago, when the surge for industrialization gained momentum, the focus shifted to the modernization and mechanization of industries across the country. In the haste to catch up with the rest of the world, the traditions, HANDICRAFTS and culture of India which had always been her trump card, received a setback. This caused the exodus of artisans to other countries, mainly the Gulf. India began witnessing a depletion of her craftsmen. During these times, there were a few who strove to preserve the heritage, with Creative Crafts of India, being a pioneer in this field.

The art of Soapstone & marble inlay or “Parchin kari” was introduced in India in the 17th century by the Mughals. The Mughals who were known for their great passion for art and architecture brought with them many different forms of art during their rule, which was the golden period of India’s architectural history. Parchin kari” was a little known art which was made famous by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, who envisaged the decoration of the Taj Mahal (today one of the seven wonders of the world) by this exquisite work, to fulfill the last wishes of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal.

Most artisans who make HANDICRAFTS for CCI have got these skills in heritage & some of them are now fifth to sixth generation craftsman. We employ their traditional skills to produce exquisite craft in tune with contemporary trends. With times the process of creating the beautiful art has improved a lot. Now the process starts with creating a 3D image on CAD software & thus a blue print of the required shape with accurate dimensions is created. After this our expert craftsmans produce the exact replicas of the blue print. Next step to this is intricating beautiful work on it.

The various types of work done on raw shapes includes fine carving, Inlay work with semi precious stone,Screen work etc. Each group of artisans have there own specific speciality & so we offer them designs accordingly. Now the final part of the process which is polishing & finishing gives the stone a natural & class.
